We made a reservation, as we were a group of 12, in advance and were greeted warmly upon arrival. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and agreed the food was delicious. Among the 12 of us, we had the special (Grouper), Filet, Tilapia, and Seafood Pasta, among other things. We were 10 adults of all ages and two young children, and everyone equally enjoyed the experience. Our service was exceptional, with very attentive care and humor here and there. We had a variety of appetizers, with my husband and I sharing the hushpuppies which were incredible. Everyone in our large family group passed arounds tastes of meals, and everything was delicious. The food was very fresh and favorable and presented beautifully. The service and food here are really top notch. Definitely make this a stop if you're looking for some incredible food in a nice atmosphere with great service. Some friends who visited Hilton Head a few weeks before us recommended Catch 22, and now we know why - we will definitely be back the next time we're in town.

So it's New Year's Eve and we're spending the week in Hilton Head. The group decided to stay in and celebrate. Then around 4pm, my mother decides that she wants to go out for a celebratory dinner and that I need to find a place for us to eat. Ummm. Good luck with that is what I'm thinking. I start making the calls. Sorry, all booked. Booked. Booked. Booked. Catch 22 was the 6th or 7th restaurant that I called and I'd given up hope by then. Lucky for us, a group of 8 had just cancelled and our party could take the reservation. I offer up my many, many thanks. The hostess told me that we were doing her a favor by filling the reservation spot that had opened up. This was our first visit to Catch 22. It's located in a strip mall on New Orleans Rd surrounded by lots of other restaurants. The restaurant is kind of multi-leveled with 3 different dining areas. We were in the back room. As a side note, the acoustics are incredible in this room. You can hear every single conversation at all the other tables. I had a hard time keeping up with the conversation at our table because I was so enthralled at what was going on at the other tables. I had my heart set on ordering the braised short ribs. When we placed our order, I told the server that I wanted the braised short ribs. He then tells us that he just found out that the chef didn't have any beef short ribs for dinner service but did have pork ribs. I was disappointed but told him to take everyone else's order while I figured out what I wanted to eat. I finally settled on chicken cordon bleu. I started getting seafood overload and wanted something different. The chicken was stuffed with prosciutto and asiago cheese and came with a mustard sauce. Everyone enjoyed their meals a lot. The others said that this was the best meal of the week for them. I was still hung up on the lack of beef short ribs. I'll get over it. Overall, the meal was good. Service was great. And they squeezed us in at the last minute on New Year's Eve. Happy New Year!

Wonderful place. Very friendly staff and great customer service. Food was wonderful make sure to get the hush puppies. I never give a 5 but because the staff was so friendly and went above and beyond I did. I got the pecan encrusted tilapia and my husband got the cobia, which was excellent.

Amazing dining experience from seafood bisque to spicy tuna sashimi, to mixed grill and finally peanut butter sushi and tiramisu martini. Perfection! Kirsten was great as a waitress!

We were looking for an early New Year's Eve dinner and read good reviews for this restaurant. We were very pleased. Hostess greeted us enthusiastically and even gave us a better table without our asking. Waiter was upbeat...attentive without being intrusive. Incredible unique hush puppies made with crab and shrimp. Delicious homemade tartar sauce...dont usually like tartar sauce. Mediterranean seafood pasta (glad I ordered the petite portion) was light on pasta and majored on shrimp, crab and scallops. Glad I saved room for dessert--chocolate volcano...yummy! Great experience. ..great way to end 2014.

Was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. We were nervous to try it out because the menu printed in food guides makes it appear as a local chain. It is a high end restaurant with quality and well thought out dishes. Excellent staff, and the romantic ambiance was a plus. Now it will become one of our usual spots in HHI for dinner, along with Alexander's (best on the island). We ordered the grouper special and the NY strip. Both entrees were exceptional.

This place is very good, and the service was very good. My wife and I ate dinner there last night, and we had a very nice meal. For appetizers, we did the Catch 22 for $28, but ironically enough our three appetizers added up to $27. The math behind the deal is only good if you do three of the more expensive apps. We had the following three apps: - Shrimp & Grits: very good but also very heavy and filling (as you would expect) - Danfuskie Hushpuppies: awesome app...highly recommend - Bruschetta: way too sweet for our tastes...it is almost like they added sugar to the balsamic We had the following entrees, which we highly recommend: - Crusted Tilefish: this was a daily special, and it was served over risotto. My wife enjoyed it - Char-Braised Short Rib: this was excellent...I had eaten fish every night before this, so it was a great fish night off option. The ribs literally fell off the bone. I also had some spaghetti squash to go with this that was very good. One thing that stood out to me on the menu was the fact that the Southern Fried Pickles were $7.50 and the Almond Crusted Tilapia was $20.50. I haven't been to a nice restaurant in a long time that adds $0.50 to menu items. It is a high probability that if you are eating at this restaurant, you don't care if it is $7.50 or $8. However, maybe they polled a group of Senior Citizens when they were making their pricing. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal, and we will consider going back next time we are in HHI.

The service was subpar -- it wasn't overly crowded but 45 min after our apps arrived, we had to flag down the bartender to ask about the entree, which was tuna. Later, our server stopped by and asked why we'd needed to check in with the bartender and was apathetic about the wait -- no apology or acknowledgment. Food was good, but CQs the night before was much better.

We had dinner there last night. The food was AMAZING. Best bone in filet mignon I've ever had. The atmosphere and service was just great! Thank you Christine and Daisy for making out first experience at Catch 22 enjoyable and memorable. We will return.

Was really hoping for a better experience here. The reviews led us to believe this would be a higher end dining experience; but I'd say it was just average. Wine selection was decent but none of the food we ordered matched the pricing.

They had us at the first bite!!! The pan seared scallops just melted in your mouth. Great wine list, slightly overdone decor especially for the island attire but awesome food overall. The girls really enjoyed the shrimp and crab meat hush puppies. The Shitake mushroom ravioli appetizers were soooo good I ordered them with the Scallops as my entree. Really great seafood on Hilton Head Island.

The atmosphere is just what you want for a night out with your better half. It's nice and quiet, the lighting is right and the waitress was sweet. I ordered a steak that was pretty good, not great. My girlfriend had the wahoo, again, was good but not great. I also had the crab soup, probably the best item I had there. We enjoyed the wine list too, the Allegrini was tasty.

What an amazing & surprising find! While on a recent "Girls Trip" to HHI, we wanted to get some great seafood. Our hotel recommended Skull Creek Boat House but when we told our cab driver (shout out to Craig!) where we wanted to go he, very nicely, steered us to Catch 22 instead. We we're a little worried when we pulled into what looked like an office complex but gave it a shot anyway. It was Saturday night & the place was empty. They were running a special where you could get a half price bottle of wine when you eat at the bar. We were in. We ordered two bottles after getting great recommendations from our wonderful bartender, Janelle. There were four of us and we wanted to try a little of everything so we coupled up to share. We had two of the appetizer samplers & picked raw oysters, oysters Rockefeller, crab cake, hush puppies, ravioli and the shrimp & crab stuffed portobello. While everything was delicious, the standouts were the ravioli & the portobello mushroom. Amazing! For our entrees we ordered the seared scallops with more of those delicious ravioli & sautéed spinach and the stuffed lobster tail. The lobster was a little overlooked but the scallops & ravioli made us want to lick our plates. We were in food heaven. Everyone at Catch 22 made us feel like one of the family. Daisy, Janelle & "Coach" were awesome & had us laughing all night. I'd recommend Catch 22 to anyone looking for delicious food & a great dining experience.

Nice dinner on our first night on HHI. We had a coupon from the timeshare company so decided to make this our initial stop. The meal was fine. The service was OK--could have been a bit better. The atmosphere was pleasant. In all, not a bad start to a great vacation

This is a wonderful local restaurant on Hilton Head Island. The nightly chef specials are fresh and delicious and generously portioned. Ambience and decor is interesting collection of artwork. Like everything about this place with one exception and I hope the owners are listening----they play a radio station as background music. The genre can be rock or country. It totally detracts and distracts from the great aspects of this restaurant. Put on an easy listening music track so diners can relax while they enjoy a good wine and good food. That said, we will go back again for the good food and hope to find better background music or no music!

Food was good but portions were tiny and very expensive! Not $$- should be at least $$$. Service poor.

My fiance and I were in Hilton Head for his work conference. We checked on yelp and the high reviews for this place lead us here. We were rather disappointed though, mostly because of the service. While the hostess was friendly, our waiter was not. He was slow, inattentive and unfriendly. I'm vegetarian and the menu clearly states that they are willing to work with any diet restrictions. That must only refer to gluten-free though. When I asked the waiter for the ravioli appetizer with a possible veg sauce substitution, he flatly stated they couldn't do that and suggested I get something else. So I ordered the brushetta which was unimpressive. Didn't even finish it. My guy had the hushpuppies as an app and enjoyed those though. The saving grace was the Eggplant Napoleon, which I had as an entree. The risotto was creamy and eggplant lightly fried and crisp. My guy ordered the Mediterranean Pasta and said it was bland. A request for crushed red pepper went unanswered, and no offer of black pepper or fresh parmesan. Overall, the service was not up to the prices charged and made the experience rather unpleasant.

Our group of nine enjoyed a comfortable environment, an excellent server and delicious meals. The grilled short rib was particularly outstanding, but a variety of other dishes were very good. The dessert selection was small.

Cozy place and well made food. Amazing taste of fresh ingredients. The desserts are the best so please try at least one before you think of leaving the restaurant. Hilton head island has some really good places to eat and most of them are home made cooking. Thank you for the wonderful food.

Loved this place. Everything we ordered was excellent. The service was top notch. We liked the atmosphere too. It is in an old strip office park (I think)...We thought we made a mistake but once inside, it was very romantic and cozy. Great for a date night, birthday celebration or Anniversary.

My wife and I were staying with family on nearby Tybee Island and kept hearing only of fried seafood available, so when our day at the beach got rained out we decided to go to Hilton Head for some outlet shopping. Once that was finished, we didn't want to wait until we got back to Tybee to have supper, so we got to searching on Yelp for seafood places closer to us. The menu online is pretty much dead on for what is available, and our experience was phenomenal. The decor is, I'll admit, a tad bit dated. I feel like 10 years ago it was a gleaming beauty, but the kitchiness of the fish tank next to us and the seashells visible under our glass table top were endearing to us. The seating arrangements were not the best, as the section where we were sat only had three other groups, but two of them were right next to us despite plenty of tables being available. I assume that's more to do with distribution of waiters than sheer space, though. Our waiter was perfect: engaging without being overbearing. He gave good recommendations and secured the last cut of the special fish of the night for us, and (my must-haves) he kept our glasses filled and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. The food is what definitely tips this from 4 or 4.5 stars to 5. We had the hushpuppies as an appetizer, and they were amazing. I rarely use that word for hushpuppies, but in this case I feel it's warranted. They are stuffed with crab and shrimp and served with an amazing sauce drizzled over them. The complimentary bread was also amazing, especially with the creamy butter spread provided. My wife had the scallop dish, and she was very pleased not only with the quality of the scallop and preparation, but with the quantity she was given. They came with spinach and a mushroom stuffed pasta, all of which combined to make a wonderful dish. My special of the night was also incredibly well prepared and presented. I believe it was grouper, which didn't really make me super excited on its own, but I was blown away with the total preparation. We also had the strawberry Key lime pie, and it was perhaps the best non-chocolate/non-cheesecake dessert I've ever tried. Considering that they had both chocolate and cheesecake, I'm not even exactly sure why we chose this one, but I would definitely order it again! All in all, if we go back to Tybee again (we're wondering if HH might not be better for us!) we will make a concerted effort to go back to this restaurant!

Had the mixed grill this time (filet, crab legs, duck). Good, but not memorable. Next time I will go back to my usual (crab leg special). Crab soup and hushpuppies both nice starters. She had the medt pasta and enjoyed. Service is always friendly. Probably our favorite spot on the island... we go every time we're in town.

Had a quick meal a the bar one evening. Bartender was great and very attentive, despite being hassled a bit by one of the servers. (Patrons seated at the bar deserve the same quality of service as those seated in the dining area.) He fixed a great Manhattan, and offered up some excellent menu recommendations. Started with a nightly soup special, which was a low-country chowder. Absolutely one of the best soups I've ever eaten--a perfect blend of spicy, creamy and slightly sweet. Chock full of fresh seafood. Enjoyed scallops with goat cheese ravioli for my entree. The dish featured six huge perfectly cooked scallops, and were accompanied by home-made ravioli and wilted spinach. Other than a slight bit of grit on one of the scallops, this dish was perfect. Prices are reasonable for HHI--not a bargain, but excellent value for the money. It's obvious the chef puts a great deal of thought into his food--just the sort of place I really enjoy.

Really good. Excellent service. The portobello app with the boursin cheese is to die for. Our group of eight loved them so much that we ordered three of those. The crab soup was not my favorite, it was a little bland for my tastes. Our group got mostly steak and everyone was pleased. The scallops were huge and expertly seared. Very enjoyable experience.

Great food overall. A little overpriced and portions are small. And the menu doesn't have a huge selection. I would recommend it to someone, but in my opinion not a place I work come back to. But again..food was great! And atmosphere was nice too.

Food Quality: Fresh and well seasoned! I had the crab cake dish and it was delicious. My bf had the swordfish dish and it was tasty too! The portion size is medium, just enough to leave you satisfied. The complimentary bread and butter was also very good! We ordered a mixed green salad and hushpuppies for the appetizers. The hushpuppies were the best I ever tasted. I probably had hushpuppies 3x total in my life and the one at the restaurant just hit the spot! The salad was just ok. Ambience: Very small place. From the outside -- it does not look appealing and its kind of hidden just like everything else on this island. Once you step inside, you feel the artsy vibe right away. The setting is perfect for an intimate dinner date. Service: Acceptable. I will go back again when I visit the Hilton Head!

So hopeful, yet so disappointed. So hard to write a review like this. The positives: the people we met were wonderful. From Daisy (who put up with a terrible cellphone connection, when we tried to book in advance), to Josh our server, to the bartender nearby (we ate at a booth in the bar), the owners & staff couldn't have been nicer. That's what makes it so difficult to write a less-than-positive review. The negatives: we simply didn't think our meal was commensurate with the price. For $130 including tax & tip (two salads, two entrées, a $4 side dish of sautéed spinach, a bottle of sparkling water, and a $28 bottle of wine), this was a disappointment. We'd hoped to find great, fresh seafood. Perhaps the seafood itself was fresh, but preparation overwhelmed the product. The panko-encrusted triggerfish might have been pleasant, except for a white sauce that seemed to have vanilla-like notes? Thankfully, most of the fish was untouched by the sauce, but the roasted red potatoes were not edible, as a result. The combination of flavors was just too jarring (savory, sweet, acidic). My wife's scallops were acceptable, but the texture of the filling in the goat cheese & prosciutto ravioli that accompanied them was paste-like and unappealing. Granted, we have high standards for seafood. Susan is from the Connecticut shore and her father is from Maine. California is home, and we travel to Florida often. We've found great seafood in some unlikely looking places. This was not one. At $50, we might try again. At $130, it didn't measure up. So sorry Catch 22 team, because you were all so pleasant! Really wish we'd loved the food as much as we liked you.

I've had this restaurant on my hit list for a while so I was expecting great things and they delivered. I had an appetizer combo of Prawn spring rolls, Shrimp and crab stuffed hushpuppies, and shrimp and lobster stuffed portabella........it was simply delish! The stuffed portablla had way too much cheese for me, so I removed half of it. The wait staff is a little on the slow side.

For starters, my family and I have been vacationing on Hilton head for the past 12 years and we have tried every dive restaurant to all the top rated ones and catch 22 by far exceeds them all. There daily specials are the best you can never go wrong with them. I'm not a big fan of fish but the way chef Brian prepares his food I practically lick my plate clean. The eggplant dish is also another one of my favorites along with the fried pickle appetizer. But enough with the food as all the other reviews rave about it as well. The owners of catch 22 are the most genuine kind hearted people. They always make you feel at home. To me this is an important part in running a successful restaurant and catch 22 does this with ease. Most restaurants the owners are never present. However this is not the case at catch 22 they all take a part in running it. The bottom line is catch 22 is a must. My family and I go here at least twice a week when we are in town. I can't imagine how much I will go here once we move here.

This was recommended as a local favorite that was kind of off the radar so we decided to try it. When we arrived, we didn't exactly find what we expected, as this was located in a small strip mall, but never one to judge a book by it's cover, we went it and we were certainly glad we did. The first thing to be noted when you go in is it is SMALL inside, with very few tables, so it would not work at all for large groups, unless they have a meeting room stashed somewhere that was not obvious. The tables themselves are rather cool, being essentially shadowboxes containing sand and seashells. We had a sampler appetizer which included ravioli, scallops, and portabella mushrooms stuffed with shrimp and lobster. All were delicious and disappeared quickly. For dinner, I had the special which was a combination dish with crispy duck, lobster thermidor, and scallops, which were also delicious and well prepared. My son had almond-crusted tilapia, and devoured it eagerly and his friend had the petite seafood pasta which was also, by report and based on the rapidity with which it disappeared, was delicious as well. My wife had the scallops and was very happy with that as well. All in all, Catch 22 has wonderful food and excellent service, and, until I ate at Charlie's the next evening, was my favorite restaurant on Hilton Head. It is a bit pricey, but the food and service are well worth the price. Just make sure you have reservations, because it is very small.

We tried Catch 22 from reading the positive reviews. We enjoyed it, but found nothing that made us want to go back. We tried their early bird special that is a good value at $17 including a glass of wine and salad. Salads were crisp and fresh. The shrimp pasta was tasty, but the pasta was slightly overcooked. The broiled tilapia was pretty bland and the portion relatively small. In general there was nothing really wrong, but nothing at all special other than the price.

Second time coming here, but our experience wasn't as great as the first. The food was awesome but our wives had literally spent a year talking about how much they were looking forward to having peanut butter sushi again this year, just to be disappointed to find out the recipe had been changed. We went here for our first meal of the trip, and they were thoroughly disappointed.

  • Alan W.

Food was good but undermined by bad service. Our waiter completely disappeared toward the end of our meal. To get the check we waited, and waited, and waited. After a 15 minute wait he showed up and said he had to "reset" the credit machine. All this time he was MIA, nowhere to be found. Waiting fervently by the machine no doubt. We won't be back. Food not good enough to overcome what appeared to be deliberately bad service. Maybe we just got stuck with a jerk. Or...Perhaps this is why the place was not even half full on a Saturday night. Maybe you will have better luck.

One of the best places I have ate on the island. Good food and good service. It is a bit pricey and the portions aren't as large as you will get at other places on the island, but it definitely worth spending the extra money. I had the Cracked Pepper Tuna (sashimi grade tuna dusted in pepper, pan seared rare, served with whipped potatoes, spinach & a horseradish butter sauce). Holy crap was it was amazing. Everybody in our group enjoyed their meals. My only complaint is that some drunk condescending lady came over to our table and basically we weren't classy enough to be their and we should try out the Crazy Crab. Of course that isn't on the restaurant. I will also mention that I am late in writing this review and this is based off my experience in the summer of 2012.

The service was great. Local art hangs on the wall and is for sale. The hostess, Daisy, also the wife of Chef Bryan, was friendly and helpful when we inquired about local hangouts. Also, they were very busy and only had one waitress, but she still took the time to be friendly and attentive. On top of it all, the food was great. There were 2 local fish options and a local chicken option as well. We had ceviche, raw oysters, local cobia on a bed of salad, the mixed grill (crab legs, steak, and duck served with spinach and clarified butter), and the local Mahi with a rosemary rissoto, which they made gluten free for my friend. In fact, they said that they could prepare any entree on the menu gluten free at request! The ingredients were fresh, and the food was well-prepared. Make sure to call ahead with reservations as the space is small and fills up quickly.

Catch 22 is the best Restaurant in Hilton Head SC. Absolutely Amazing Food!! Everything was Fantastic!!!

  • Mark S.

Mediocre at best! Prices are high for quality of food, filet was lacking in seasoning and flavor. Restaurant atmosphere was loud with Christmas party poorly seated and our 3/8 plywood table was a little wobble to say the least! Last but not least the children menu was poor with a ridiculous price tag of $12.00 for a 6in microwave cheese pizza. Would not rush back!

On a recent visit it HHI we found Catch 22 through Yelp. The food is awesome! Fresh, flavorful; everything you want a new dining experience to be. I had the snapper special and my husband had the char-broiled short ribs. We chose these so we could share and I'm so glad we did. The snapper was moist, succulent and melt in your mouth delicious. The short ribs were meaty and cooked to perfection. How they managed to cook them so well and keep the meat from falling from the bone is another feat. The sauces on both were excellent and perfect for the bread they make fresh daily. Janell was the perfect server; attentive w/o being over-bearing and knowledgeable about the food and area. I hate that we didn't get the opportunity to try Roastfish and Cornbread (another restaurant by the same team) as suggested by Janell. But we look forward to both on our next trip.

Food is up there with the best of HHI. However, atmosphere looks more like a sports bar inside-- does not match great food and certainly does not match prices. Service is friendly and helpful but food comes out SLOW. Best in HHI remains Sea Grass Grille, but food here is wonderful for sure.

  • Christine F.

I would definitely come back, our service was good, nice wine list, I got the raw oysters which were plump flavorful and fresh, as well as the scallop entree which was delish. My husband had the Ceasar salad and crab Imperial that he really enjoyed. Next time I'll try the early dining menu.

Great place to dine. We had the 2.5lbs of crab legs (not on the menu - you have to ask) along with the chef special consisting of duck, petit filet mignon, and stuffed lobster tail. With a 7mo old infant, would have been better if advised prior to ordering that the duck takes a VERY long time to cook. Unfortunately we ended up having to take a to-go box due to the 40 minute wait for everything to cook. However, don't let this distract from how great the food tastes. Recommended for those willing to enjoy a nice evening dining.

Five of us came without reservations on an early Sunday evening. The hostess was polite and gave us a great table. Our waiter was personable and prompt. The wine list was adequate and moderately priced. For a seafood restaurant, seafood consisted of less than 25% of the menu. The menu indicated that the seafood was obtained locally, but after asking the waiter, only a small number of entrees were local. The food was promptly brought to the table and served at the proper temperature. The lump crab risotto contained minimal crab for $28. The seafood and pasta was also light on the seafood. The flounder was local and very good. All in all, pretty mediocre for an island seafood restaurant.

Ate here last night based on ll the reviews. Overall, great place. Had win and a key lime martini to start. Appetizers had the shrimp and crab hush puppies. They were good but not our favorite. My wife had the creamy crab and roasted red pepper soup. She loved it. Entrees were the Mediterranean seafood pasta (excellent) and the crab/shrimp lemon pasta (good but not much crab). Staff was very friendly. I though service was a little too laid back but we were never neglected. Would visit again.

Based on the reviews I was looking for a great seafood place. The menu seemed limited on the seafood end and expensive. Only one fresh fish dish. Bread was pedestrian. Seafood Plateau was OK but the crab wasn't fresh and the 6 shrimp were overcooked. Oysters were great. Halibut was uninspired. Service was good. Scallops were great.

Went there on Friday night early Sept with twin 3-year olds, wife and Grandma. We had a fantastic dinner!!!! By far the best meal we had on the island. Service was great and the waitress steered my wife to the fish special that night which was awesome (and I don't like fish much). I had a steak which was great and the grandma had scallops which she raved about. Probably not the best place for toddlers but no one seemed to mind and they do have kids menu, but I rec splitting the meal between two toddlers. It is expensive, on par with a Ruth's Chris or some other premium steakhouse but it was worth the price. Would recommend this without hessitation

We are on vacation with two young kids around S Forest Ave. As usual, we're looking for good dinner place. Ended up visiting catch 22 because Michael Anthony's isn't available at the time we wanted to dine. Catch 22 has fairly good review on Yelp and it's right next door. The atmosphere is good, people are very nice. Food is okay with small portion. We think the price is reasonable for regular dishes, but too expensive for kids. One kid dish cost $12, for very small portion of pasta with plain tomato sauce only. That's way overpriced. My 2 year old son is not a big eater by all means and he finished the dish still wanting more. Chicken tender had too much breading and tasted plain. Kids didn't like it. I would give 3.5-4 star for adult's dish, but maybe 2 for kids. If you have young kids, think twice.

One of the best meals I've ever had. Holy crap. Husband and I have been to MANY "great" restaurants in Hilton Head... but wow, this one, this one takes the cake. There were no tables available immediatley, but we were welcome to sit at the bar for immediate service, which was more than fine. We started off with the Seafood Plateau, all VERY good. Peel and eat shrimp, 1/2 dozen oysters and lump crab meat. Everything was great. For a moment I was hoping for more dipping sauces, but that was a ridiculous thought, because everything was so fresh and amazing, why ruin that awesome natural taste? I had the jumbo scallops, which was served with goat cheese and shitake mushroom ravioli's, on little beds of spinach sauteed with pancetta. Holy crap, only like 4 of my favorite ingredients on ONE plate. Husband had tuna au poivre. I'll be honest, I was nervous for him because typically anything done au poivre is never a favorite of mine. I was wrong, I'm glad he ordered it. The tuna was perfectly prepared, the peppercorns taste was perfect, did not take over the dish as I'm used to with au poivre. Everything was fabulous, it was one of our top 3 meals...of all time, yes, all time. OUR experience was THAT good. In fact, it was so good I was ready to make reservations for tomorrow night before I was through with my entree. So go there. Forget Redfish, Bonefish, what have you, or don't, because I don't want to have to wait to get a seat at Catch 22, because it's that fabulous. I can't leave out this final bit of info, because it's important... the martini's were fabulous!

Must have reservations! it is the best food we have had on the Island in all the times we have been here. We had a reservation but ended up sitting at the bar when Daisy offered us a free drink and appetizer if we sat at the bar. Actually it was very fun to sit there. My husband had the scallops and I had a grouper special. The wine pours were generous and the beer was very cold! The chef is a talented man, and his wife Daisy is great at making sure as many people as possible can be served in this limited seating establishment. The colorful fishtanks and art on the walls are an added bonus!

Blech is all I can say. Would have given one star if not for the service. Pricey, not sure why this has two $$ only since the average entree is north of $25, kids meals are $12. Food was confusing. Not sure what the portabella mushroom and lobster and goat cheese mess was. Oysters Rockefeller was topped with some odd garnish. Place had a really odd ambiance. This was the only "miss" we've had on Hilton Head. With so many really decent places at reasonable dollars do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Somewhat pricey, but great food, amazing atmosphere, and friendly staff. Slightly out of the way, but not bad. Odd hostess setup, but we were seated right away on a Thursday evening around 6:30. I had called around 4:30 to see if they had any crab leg specials since my wife wanted them, and the website said mon-wed. The young lady that answered the phone said yes and told me the special. When we came in our server said the special was only mon-wed, but when I mentioned I had called he left for a short time and came back happy to let us have that special. Overall great restaurant, but prepare to lighten your wallet. Worth it!

Fantastic meal. We went late on a Tuesday night, the place was empty, we were nervous. I am glad we decided to stay. Great service, very good steak and tuna. One of the best meals we had in HHI Will go back

Early diners menu is a beautiful thing! $15 for a glass of wine, a salad, and a main dish. The best part about the dish is that it's the perfect size; it's not huge and it's not small, which is great because who takes leftovers home on vacation. The poor waitress was double sat, with a 6 top none the less. So she was a little behind, but she really tried hard to keep up with our lil 2 top and her hysterical 6 top. The hostess thanked me by name as we left. That in itself was just amazing. All in all, the food wasn't spectacular, but with the special price and the awesome customer service - I'm definitely going back the next time I'm in HHI. PS... the "cheap" wine that goes with the special dinner is good, it's definitely NOT the cheap stuff. PPS... make sure you get a reservation. They only have about 20 tables in total.

OMG I hit the jackpot!! Food is amazing as well as a friendly staff. Gotta try the Bone In Filet. AMAZE-BALLS!! My husband had the mixed grill which has duck, filet and lobster.

We tried this for the first time last year and were pleasantly surprised. Good quality and selections. We would return. You know, what HH has needed for a long time (since the 1980s) is a great oceanfront dining experience. Almost all of the oceanfront property is owned by large corporations, so for now one has to visit a Marriott or the Hilton, etc. for a view; but if it can be done, it should.

Food was great. Service was great. Only thing that was bad was the kids meals are $12 a piece. With 2 kids, gets really pricey.

I have very mixed emotions about this place. I HATE the way it is set up/decorated. Something about the space feels cluttered an awkward, they decor needs some direction...any direction. We went on Sunday night, and the service was TERRIBLE. One waiter who seemed new, confused, and was awkward in general, so theres that. The redeeming quality is the food, which is quite good. The seafood hush puppies were delicious, as were the fried pickles (I know, but try them). The scallops entree was fantastic as well. The wine/drink menu is a little bit blah, but if you are looking for good seafood in Hilton Head and do not mind a 'not so great' atmosphere then this is the spot.

Great service - check Great food - check Portions were huge, and the food was really great! Service was great. It was a little bit difficult to find in the dark and in the rain, but no fault of the restaurant's - just an fyi. I HIGHLY recommend the Oyster Martini - I literally drank the marinade out of the glass!

We just spent 5 days vacationing on Hilton Head Island, and dinner at Catch 22 was by far the worst meal of the week. The food was very generic, not flavorful at all, the presentation of the food and the design of the restaurant were pretentious but lacked true elegance and sophistication, and the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. We actually ended up leaving right after trying our main dishes without eating them, because the food tasted bland and mediocre. They ran out of the soup special right after I ordered it, their bread was old and dry, the hush puppies were just uninteresting overfried brown balls... The tuna instead of being rare was just plain raw, the scallops were dull and tepid, and the ravioli oversalted and oversauced. Also, the restaurant is ridiculously overpriced for what it's worth. Main dishes range from $19 to $40. For that price, the quality of the food should be superb, but it was not even average. I don't know what other reviewers are raving about. Do yourself a favor and save yourself an easy one hundred bucks.

A bit overrated. Portions were small, Caesar salad was supremely ordinary, and vegetables were more than al dente - more like a nod to the kitchen and cold. Service was spotty although they hurried with our check. $200 for 4 adults and 2 children was just over the top. The crab cakes were tasty but slightly larger than a silver dollar. The crab soup was good and spicy. With so many restaurants in Hilton head to choose from, I would not go back.

We went here on a whim because another restaurant was closed on Sunday. It turned out to be a great experience The heirloom salad was awesome and following it were great entrees. Everything was fresh and delicious. We will make this a regular stop when in hi.

Nice atmosphere and good service. I had the duck and the skin was crispy and the meat was moist. The wife had tilapia and said it was good too. The only downside is a $12 kids entree. Penne pasta that probably cost them $1.

Went on a Sunday night for the early bird dinner (4 adults and a 3 year old). I thought the service was outstanding, our waitress was great. The house wine (had zinfandel) surprisingly good, as part of the early bird special, also had the mixed greens salad (very good) and beef tips as my entree - also very tasty and presentation was very nice. By the time we left (7:30ish) the place was packed. Definitely recommended.

Steak not worth the $35 price tag (I have made better at home). Didn't care for the fried pickles either. Waiter wasn't too good. Wont go back. Sorry guys!

loved the fun atmosphere here. although not on the water like a seafood restaurant should be but the majority on the island are not anyway. their shrimp and lobster stuffed portabella appetizer was delicious and both the almond crusted tilapia and seafood pasta had tons of flavor. where they really excelled was with the sweet potato cake and desserts. the key lime pie was top notch but the highlight of the night was the peanut butter sushi. not sushi at all as you may expect but it was the shape that made it seem that way. it was basically whipped peanut butter covered in oreo crumbs then sliced thinly on the plate. quite the idea and absolutely fantastic.

Ravioli Ravioli Ravioli!!! The Homemade Ravioli dish was amazing! I could eat this for an entree. (It actually is available as an entree served under sea scallops which I didn't realize until after I already ordered). The Daufuskie Hushpuppies with shrimp, crab, and honey butter were good, but I wasn't blown away like I thought I would be. We shared the Roasted Red Pepper and Lump Crab Soup. Although it wasn't necessarily better than She Crab Soup, it was a nice reprieve from the dozens of versions of She Crab Soup available on the Island. (The best version of She Crab Soup we have encountered so far is at the Old Fort Pub) My sister ordered the 3 Onion Encrusted Pork Chop off of our uncle's recommendation. He said it was the best he's ever had. I didn't try it, but she said it was delicious. The waiter wrapped the rest of hers to go into a swan. This made me like the restaurant even more. It's been years since I've seen a restaurant do this. I ordered the Mediterranean Seafood Pasta in the petite size and I still didn't finish it. For a pasta it felt pretty light, which I liked I didn't feel weighed down after. The scallops were slightly overcooked though. We ended with the Peanut Butter Sushi because so many yelp reviews raved about it. I didn't really care for this, it was very rich and pedestrian. I was more curious from the name. The bar area has more intimate feel than the dining room, although the dining room has local art on the walls for sale. The tables were adorable. They had seashells under the glass. We brought our own bottle of wine. The corkage fee was $20. GET THE RAVIOLI!!!!

Ate here last Monday with a party of 8. It was really one calamity after another. Two of us ordered the daily special which included lobster, filet, and duck. They came back to us 10 minutes after ordering and informed us that they needed the lobster for a different entree on the menu and couldn't include it in the special anymore. They were replacing it with crab legs. At the same price. Snow crab legs. The "buffet line item" of the crab leg world. One person switched to a fish, I switched to a seafood pasta. Our server came back to tell us that they were also out of the fish. My seafood pasta came out completely overcooked. The pasta, and the seafood. There were a number of other dishes prepared poorly, and with a price of $25-$45/entree it should have been much better. With plenty of other restaurants on the island I would recommend you try somewhere else.

PERFECT DATE NIGHT RESTAURANT!!!!!! My first time in HHI (Hilton Head Island) and not use to the atmosphere, style of the shops and the building setups but once you get use to it. It's really fun. So for dinner ideas (and they have tons) I decided to ask a friend who lives here on the island for some suggestions. She gave me "Catch 22" and even made the reservation for me and I'm glad she did. (Thanks Corrine) 1.Very easy to get to and very courteous staff as we entered. I like that the owners are hands on and work there. We were seated by Daisy who seems like a bundle of fun and it got busy while we were there. She never lost that smile. Our waiter was great and made some great suggestions and all suggestions were fantastic. 2.Surprisingly this place was NOT THAT EXPENSIVE. I expected a $100 bill for 2 and we ate..... A LOT!! So for it to be under that (with tip of 25%), cost was totally worth it. 3. Food was fresh. Let's stop all the fuss and just put the ravioli ON YOUR LIST OF THINGS TO EAT. Regardless of what you order, it's a must!!!! It's explodes in your mouth and I was close to ordering a small side to reheat the next day. We ordered the lobster ravioli, portobello mushroom, and an amazing crab cake as our appetizer, it's presentation was amazing as it it came on a 3 tier tray stacked and it not only makes it look like fun to eat but the food looks amAzing as well. So it's tasted double cool. Did I mention the ravioli???? Get it, it was amazing! I had the "Eggplant Napoleon" fantastic just ask for extra cheese cause. It has a pesto sauce that was a nice touch to the dish along with the risotto. My wife has the seafood penne pasta, shrimp scallops soft as can be, crap and a butter sauce that was very creamy. A definite re-do. 4. Dessert, we only had room to try 1 and they had this chocolate cake with ice cream that looked amazing. But that lost out to the peanut-butter sushi (nope! Not a typo). This was an awesome desert. Peanut butter wrapped in an almost Cookie oil with whipped cream and strawberries. (Ask for extra strawberries so you can have them with the sushi each time) see pics. Overall we will be back and I would recommend this restaurant for anyone. You'll love the food and experience. Enjoy!!!!!!!! Ps, Did I mention the Ravioli???? Lol.

The GREATEST meal I've ever had in Hilton Head. Mom got an app trio with fabulous seafood-stuffed hush puppies and also raved about the house soup (crab and roasted red poetry bisque). I got the most meltingly well cooked short ribs ever. Daisy and Kerstin were so friendly and made great recommendations. Daisy even brought out a free dessert because she said "we like y'all and want you to stay longer". You MUST go eat here.

Disappointing meal. We had high hopes based on a personal recommendation and the online reviews. Nine of us went to dinner on a Monday night in July. The restaurant was three quarters full. Drinks were good. Appetizers were terrific... We ordered five. The eggplant pizza and tuna appetizer were particularly good. The meals were tough. I got the cracked pepper tuna. It was not sushi grade as advertised. It was also over cooked. The meal was bland. Several people ordered the mixed grill special - a mix of lobster, steak and duck. The waitress came back to say that they would need to replace the lobster with snow crab. There was no reduction in price. The special was too saucy, too salty and over cooked. Others who ordered the scallops said that they were over cooked as well. I would not recommend Catch-22.

My family went for our last vacation dinner and we definitely saved the best for last!! We were pleasantly surprised to find that every member of our family thoroughly enjoy their meals. Definitely will be a tradition to return here for dinner on every vacation we enjoy on Hilton Head Island.

Small, intimate, and delicious! Great wine selection. Enjoyed a great variety around our table from the creamy risotto, delectable pork chops, incredible fresh catch, and perfectly presented ahi tuna! Would highly recommend for a kid-free dining experience like few others in HHI

Ordered the stuffed lobster $38! My lobster was missing both claws. I asked my waiter where my claws were ? He said they use them for other things! It was the regular size lobster. Never in my life have I ordered a lobster and been shorted the claws!

The food was very good but a little pricey... The large table we sat at was wobbly!! Unfortunately, we had a very poor waiter who never offered us any refills on our drinks. Some of the food was spicy but we were unable to get the attention from the waiter to refill our drinks... He finally presented us with a bill when we were through eating, never offered any desserts to us, and finally my husband asked for another glass of water after the meal was finished, which the waiter replied 'sure' !! Not sure I would go back for the above reasons.

Walked in and a couple servers asked if we had reservations and we said No and then they were kinda rude to us. Luckily the bartender saw this and rushed out from behind the bar quickly and got us menus and got us a table for 4. Our Server Holly took excellent care of us and was very accommodating and helpful. Great meal and atmosphere, I would recommend this place and go back again.

This is one of my favorite restaurants on HHI! Discovered it last year and liked it so much my boyfriend and I were determined to visit again during our trip this year. Unfortunately, we almost didn't make it because the kitchen generally closes earlier than we are used to. We called and spoke with Daisy (one of the co-owners)and she was so helpful! Even though Catch 22 was closing, she offered us suggestions on places to go and EVEN called around on our behalf. Fortunately, once I mentioned to her that we were about 5 minutes away, she told us to come on in anyway. And we were so so glad that she did! Their caesar salad is amazing! (My boyfriend and I were talking about it for the past year and when we had it last Saturday, it did not disappoint!) For main entrees, I had the scallops which Daisy recommended and they were prepared fantastically. My boyfriend had the locally farmed grouper and it also was a nicely done dish. I still haven't had desert, because I am always so full by the end of our meals, but one day I will try the chocolate sushi roll. It seems heavenly and nothing at this restaurant has disappointed me yet! I will definitely be back next time I am on the island!

I came here for the first time with my boyfriend for a romantic dinner. We waited 45 minutes for a table and another 30 minutes for drinks once we sat down. We ordered steaks (medium) and one came back well done, the other came back bloody and rare. The server gave us little attention and we waited 20 minutes for them to fix our steaks, which came back cooked wrong again. I couldn't finish mine because I was just turned off at that point and ready to leave. The manager never once came to check on us or apologize. The only good thing about the restaurant was the wine. The ambiance was very nice too.

Just finished great anniversary dinner with family. Everything was superb. Started with hush puppies, oysters Rockefeller, oysters on half shell and fried pickles. Tail fish special was great with lobster corn salsa. Scallops with ravioli was superb and Manhatten steak was cooked perfectly. Would recommend this to anyone.

Good food, so-so service, pricey. We went there tonight because of the yelp reviews. It is incorrectly marked as a ($$). It should definitely be a ($$$). Average entree price being $30. We made a reservation and were promptly seated once we arrived. Our waitress took almost 10 mins to greet us. Wine was very marked up. $46 for Santa Margherita pinot grigio is crazy. That's a $15 bottle of low end wine. It was the high end pinot grigio at this restaurant. The appetizers were excellent. We had the night's special of soft shell crab and raw oysters. The oysters were clean, fresh, and large. For our entrees we had the saltimbocca (very good) and the sampler of duck, lobster, and filet (excellent). We shared the key lime pie and it was average. Total bill was $140. They refused to split the bottle of wine on the check with the other couple we went with, as we had asked.

Very pleased in selecting this restaurant. The service was great. The bread and hush puppies were outstanding! I had the Veal Bolognese which was good; however, be careful if you don't like spicy. My other half had Mixed Grill which included the Duck, Filet, and Stuffed Lobster and loved it. We will return.

This restaurant was recommended at our resort but the positive Yelp reviews were the deciding factor to checkout this place. We arrived for dinner around 7:30 on a Monday night and the place was not crowded. We were seated immediately at a booth near the middle of the restaurant. The ambiance is very quiet and soothing - love the local artwork available for purchase hanging tastefully from the walls. This seems like a great place to bring your closest friend and enjoy some quiet but lovely conversation along with a glass or three of wine. My niece enjoyed the crushed shells below the glass tabletop. Now for the food: the hubby ordered the crab roasted red pepper soup - overall pretty good but lacked the depth of flavor compared to last nights she crab soup. The star appetizer are the hush puppies that are made with crab. Those little morsels of goodness were accompanied by some of the best homemade tarter sauce I have tasted. Main dishes: Hubby ordered the mixed grill upon the waiters recommendation; I chose the seafood pasta. My niece ordered the cheese pizza with green beans (can you believe the original side was mashed potatoes?!). Hubby's dish had lobster, duck, a petite filet. Mashed potatoes and spinach. The star of this dish was the duck - tender on the inside with a perfectly crisp skin and served with this cherry reduction that would make sandpaper edible. The lobster was pretty good - tender meat and part of the tail was chopped and seasoned with Old Bay or a similar spice. The petite filet was cooked to his liking (medium well) and also expertly seasoned. My seafood pasta had penne noodles cooked Al dente with a pesto sauce and a light touch of the sherry butter sauce. Shrimp, crab, lobster, tomatoes, kalamata olives, spinach and fresh parsley were tossed together in a pleasant medley of flavors. I didn't meant to eat all the pasta but ended up finished about 95% of my dish. Tr desert offering was interesting (peanut butter sushi, chocolate cake, key lime pie and a white chocolate creme brûlée) but we declined. My niece happily ate her vanilla ice cream to complete her meal. The waiter was friendly and knowledgable - we shall return!

Boy was I pleased after yelping this place up! We had a hard time finding the place because the navigation kept directing us to the plaza next door but we finally found it. I ordered the Roasted red pepper and crab soup...AMAZING...and the Mediterranean Seafood Pasta...excellent!! The garlic flavor set this dish pasta dish OFF! The sauce was a thin and very flavorful one. There was crab, shrimp, and very large scallops. There was also spinach and tomatoes swimming around in that flavorful sauce and making my taste buds happy. My coworker ordered some sort of risotto with seafood but It was baked and served covered in a creamy sauce. I tasted the dish thinking it was cheese on top but I don't think it was cheese. Whatever it was, I'm glad it was there because man oh man was it great! If I ever return to HHI, I'm also returning to Catch 22 for sure!

My boyfriend and I walked in and were asked if we had a reservation. When we said that we didn't, the hostess walked away. Which was awkward and unprofessional. Then a woman behind the bar got us to a table right away. We ordered a few drinks and the hush puppy appetizer. It was delicious. My martini was so strong, I wasn't able to drink it. Then we waited for our food for over an hour. Apparently, the owner was out of town and there was a new person in the kitchen with no experience. A few other tables had the same issue. Once our food came out, it was amazing. Holly, our server was very nice and kept apologizing for the delay. She took care of us. Although the kitchen had it's issues, the meal was great. Maybe go when the owner is there. And a reservation.

Ordered hushpuppies for an app. Was pretty good. Mixed grill for main dish. The dish was very good. My 3 year old daughter was with me and she has the cheese pizza and whipped potatoes. It was good as well. Overall just the food was great...4.5 stars. BUT the service was a 3. Slow. Not super friendly or helpful. And the price was super expensive, not a $$. More like $$$. I would recommend to people who had the money and time. Not for everyone.

We tilled the dice and went back for a repeat on our second trip to HHI. Absolutely wonderful. The menu hasn't changed in a year, so far as we noticed, which was a touch surprising. That's entirely on, though. The early bird is a pretty good value but I recommend that you shell out and pay for a full portion of what you want. Worth every penny.

Leave your kids at home and enjoy an Excellent seafood joint. You've got to check out Dafuskie hush puppies. Ideal for a night out with your significant other. Not as good as last year obvious the chef left and forgot to tell the predecessor his secret ingredients and touch of pizzazz. Our food order was too rushed and I even specifically stated to our server to please bring each entree slowly not before we were done with the first course. Too bad bc this was one of our best restaurant in Hilton Head.

We met a wonderful couple there for apps at the bar. Keven took great care of us and Daisy went out of her way to help us see live music at a local hotspot. The drinks were great and the Pizza and Lobster claws hit the spot. We'll be returning there on our next visit.

This was our second and last visit to Catch 22. Our first trip was perfectly fine (despite a somewhat rude server, but the food was terrific). Last night was a mess from start to finish. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but we were told by three different people who rushed up to greet us that everything (including most of the bar) was fully booked. So we grabbed two bar seats at the end and waited to watch the crowd come in... spoiler alert: it remained empty the whole time we were there. Our appetizer promised to be a feast of fresh seafood, and it was enjoyable except for the fact that our shrimp weren't deveined at all and were quite "full". Yuck. We then ordered a bottle of wine and the bartender split the cork while opening. These things happen, but instead of pouring a sample taste of the wine, he poured two full glasses and walked away while we discovered bits of cork floating in our glasses. We were offered another bottle, but they were out of what we ordered. The manager suggested another bottle, which ended up being more expensive. No, they did not discount a penny off the wine. Then our entrees came out and my fish was raw. I sent it back and the manager came by and made some strange comment about the cook knowing he took it out of the oven too soon. By the time my entrée came back out, I ended up boxing up half of it because we were just ready to go home. They offered us a dessert to take with us. But, when I asked if they could do anything about my entrée on the bill, the manager said, "Well, we bought you dessert!" I then watched her return to the other side of the bar where she was sitting having a drink and could overhear her complaining about us to the other staff. They had multiple opportunities to redeem themselves through the night, but never did. It's not like we're looking for discounts, we would have been quite happy to pay for great food and wine. But this was not the kind of experience I would hope to have with a $200 check.

The food was great at Catch 22! It appears that the Chef came to play! I wish I could say the same about the rest of the staff. The waiter did not want to serve, the dinnerware was not clean, the floors were sticky, plating was awful, and the pricing was $$$ NOT $$. The Host was great! This restaurant can be much better with staff adjustments.
